FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

F

The Book Party was born in October 2021, celebrating the launch of AJ West’s debut novel, The Spirit Engineer. The event was a book launch in one part, but also a big ‘thank you’ to all the writers and book bloggers who’d helped AJ and Victoria from InstaBookTours make a success of their campaign. It was incredible to see people sharing their love with authors, and meeting online friends for the first time. After such a success, The Book Party had to become a regular event!

WHAT IS THE BOOK PARTY?

The Book Party is a fresh take on book events, bringing authors, publishers, general readers, and book bloggers together for a celebration where everybody’s a special guest. We’re not a literary festival or an author Q&A; instead, we’re offering a chance for writers, publishers, and readers to connect in an informal environment for socialising, networking and fun!

WHAT WILL I GET FOR MY TICKET?

First things first: there may be extra treats and keepsakes to buy at the events, but we DO NOT charge extra for meeting authors or having books signed or any fundamental aspects of The Book Party. Your ticket gets you full access to the event. No VIPs or extra charges* because, at The Book Party, everybody is a special guest. Each event will offer specific experiences and special offers, such as a goodie bag filled with…well, goodies! But of course, the main attraction will always be the unique opportunity for amazing authors and brilliant book bloggers to mingle in a vibrant venue. To have such a range of amazing writers and influencers convening in one space for socialising and networking is highly unusual, and so special! We love to see partygoers meeting up with old friends for the first time in real life, making new friendships, building new business connections, and authors meeting fans in a way they never have before!

*Food and drinks are at guests’ own expense excepting events where complimentary drink and food are advertised prior to said event.

WHAT AUTHORS WILL BE AT THE PARTY?

Authors can be very busy with events so it can take time to confirm our guest list, however, please follow us on social media (@itsthebookparty) for the latest announcements and check the relevant Party Page here on the website. It's worth mentioning that, while our author guests are an integral part of the party, and while we always welcome an impressive and diverse roster of celebrated writers, our reader guests find huge value in meeting fellow readers. So, don't wait too long to see which authors are coming and miss your chance to bag a ticket!

I’M AN AUTHOR, HOW DO I JOIN THE GUEST LIST?

The Book Party is open to everyone as an unrivalled way to mingle with fellow writers, publishers, and readers, so there’s no guest list to join! Just book your ticket and if you’d like to be promoted as one of our author guests, let us know via our email information@thebookparty.co.uk or on socials via DM and we can discuss possibilities. A very limited number of complimentary tickets will be offered to guests (not only authors) at the discretion of the organisers.

DO YOU ONLY WELCOME TRADITIONALLY PUBLISHED AUTHORS?

Not at all! We celebrate all authors, regardless of how they are published.

CAN I FILM OR RECORD AUDIO AT THE BOOK PARTY?

The Book Party is a relaxed and informal space, where authors and influencers can feel safe to enjoy themselves. Intrusive recording or requests to record, as well as unwelcome videoing, may harm that vibe. Anyone wishing to create paid or promotional content for social media platforms, such as podcasts, YouTube videos, sponsored TikTok videos or any broadcaster or broadcasting platform, must contact the organisers for permission beforehand, or they may be asked to leave the event.

ARE CHILDREN INVITED TO THE BOOK PARTY?

We’re considering child-friendly events, but unless specifically stated, all Book Parties are adults-only, with 16-18’s requiring an adult’s supervision. The Book Party can take no legal responsibility for the safety and well-being of guests, and our events do often include the consumption of alcohol, so it’s strongly advised for young people to be chaperoned at all times.

DOES THE BOOK PARTY SUPPORT CHARITABLE CAUSES?

The Book Party is a private venture, but we are very keen to support charitable causes, particularly those aimed at improving literacy and access to books for children and those in need. If you are a charity or you know of a charity which might benefit from Book Party support, let us know!

CAN WE SPONSOR THE BOOK PARTY?

You must certainly can, providing we share values and plans to make every Book Party the best ever! The future of the event will rely on long-term partnerships that benefit all concerned and stay true to our promise that everyone is a special guest. For sponsorship enquiries, please contact information@thebookparty.co.uk

ARE YOU A FULLY ACCESSIBLE EVENT?

Each event will have different facilities, but we will always do our best to ensure that venues are accessible to all. For specific access requirements or enquiries, please refer to the venue details for each event.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON EQUALITY AND INCLUSION?

Policies on equality and inclusion must be approached with ongoing care, investment and expertise. For all events, we state unequivocally that we are a fully inclusive event, expecting all guests to treat fellow attendees with the utmost respect. We will not accept any hostile or exclusionary behaviour or language which leaves any guest feeling unwelcome.

WHY DO YOU ASK AUTHORS TO BUY A TICKET, AND DO YOU PAY A FEE?

None of our guests receive travel costs or a fee. We agree that nobody - book bloggers included - should be expected to work for free, however The Book Party is a networking, promotional, and social opportunity, bringing writers together with some of the most exciting and hardworking book influencers from across the UK and beyond. One thing that sets us apart from book festivals is that influencers and writers are treated as equal, each bringing their own valuable contribution to the event. Furthermore, The Book Party does not require authors to take part in workshops, Q&As, or any form of work. It really is just a party to celebrate the UK book scene. As stated previously, a small number of guests will receive complimentary tickets at the discretion of the organisers. For more information, don't hesitate to contact us.
