WHERE DID THE BOOK PARTY BEGIN?

The Book Party was born in October 2021 at the launch of AJ's debut novel, The Spirit Engineer. The event was a big ‘thank you’ to all the writers and book bloggers who’d helped make a success of AJ and Vic's campaign. It was incredible to see writers and readers sharing their love of books, meeting online friends for the first time. The Book Party was born!

WHAT IS THE BOOK PARTY?

The Book Party is a fresh take on literary events: part festival, part social gathering, part networking event. Bringing world-famous and establishing authors together with book influencers and general readers, the party strips away the barriers that traditionally separate authors from readers, creating a unique celebration where everybody is treated like a special guest. We’re not a traditional literary festival nor an author Q&A, other events offer those things brilliantly. Instead, we’re offering a chance for writers, publishers, and readers to connect in a relaxed, welcoming environment, open to everybody.

WHAT WILL I GET FOR MY TICKET?

There may be extra treats and keepsakes to buy at the events from our in-house shops, but we never charge extra for meeting authors, nor for having books signed, nor any fundamental aspects of The Book Party. Your ticket grants full access to the event. No VIPs or extra charges*. Each event will offer specific experiences and special offers, such as free goodies, but of course, the main attraction will always be the unique opportunity for amazing authors and brilliant bloggers to socialise in a vibrant venue. To have such a range of amazing writers and influencers convening in one space for fun and networking is unique in the UK literary scene. We love to see partygoers meeting up with old friends for the first time in real life, making new friendships, building new business connections, and authors meeting fans in a way they never have before.

*Food and drinks are at guests’ own expense and may not be available at the venue, excepting events where complimentary catering is advertised.

WHICH AUTHORS WILL BE AT THE PARTY?

Authors can be very busy with events so it takes a little time to confirm our full guest list. However, you can follow us on social media (@itsthebookparty) for the latest announcements and check the relevant Party Page here on the website. It's worth mentioning that while our author guests are an integral part of the party, our reader guests find primary value in mixing and partying with each other. So, if you're a reader, don't wait to see which authors are attending, get that ticket booked and wait to see which stars you'll be mingling with!

WILL CONFIRMED AUTHORS DEFINITELY BE AT THE PARTY?

All confirmed authors have agreed in writing to attend, but there will be occasions when they need to postpone or cancel their appearance due to unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, The Book Party will be unable to refund - in full or in part - any tickets purchased.

I’M AN AUTHOR, HOW DO I JOIN THE GUEST LIST?

You don't need to be invited. Simply book your ticket then let us know via our email: information@thebookparty.co.uk. We will then send you an online form to complete so we can add you to our author announcements. Such announcements are entirely at the discretion of The Book Party. A strictly limited selection of complimentary tickets will be offered to a small number of guests (not only authors) at the discretion of the organisers. We would like to thank the many authors who choose to help us with costs by booking a ticket even when offered a comp'.

DO YOU ONLY WELCOME TRADITIONALLY PUBLISHED AUTHORS?

Not at all. We celebrate all authors, and some of our most popular guests are independently published.

CAN I FILM OR RECORD AUDIO AT THE BOOK PARTY?

The Book Party is a relaxed and informal space, where authors and influencers can feel safe to enjoy themselves without intrusion. Recording or requests to record, as well as unwelcome videoing, may cause discomfort to some guests. We encourage social media content, but anyone wishing to create paid or promotional content for social media platforms, such as podcasts, YouTube videos, sponsored TikTok videos or any broadcaster or broadcasting platform, must contact the organisers for permission beforehand, or they may be asked to leave the event.

ARE CHILDREN INVITED TO THE BOOK PARTY?

We’re considering child-friendly events in the future, but unless specifically stated, all Book Parties are adults-only, with 16-18’s requiring an adult’s supervision. The Book Party can take no legal responsibility for the safety and well-being of guests, and our events do often include the consumption of alcohol, so it’s strongly advised for young people to be chaperoned at all times.

DOES THE BOOK PARTY SUPPORT CHARITABLE CAUSES?

The Book Party is a private venture, but we are very keen to support charitable causes, particularly those aimed at improving literacy and access to books for those in need. If you are a charity or you know of a charity which might benefit from Book Party support, please let us know.

ARE YOU A FULLY ACCESSIBLE EVENT?

Each event will have different facilities, but we do our best to ensure that venues are accessible to all. For specific access requirements or enquiries, please refer to the venue details for each event.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON EQUALITY AND INCLUSION?

Policies on equality and inclusion must be approached with ongoing care, investment and expertise. For all events, we state unequivocally that we are a fully inclusive event, expecting all guests to treat fellow attendees with the utmost respect. We will not accept any hostile or exclusionary behaviour or language which leaves any guest feeling unwelcome.

WHY DO YOU ASK AUTHORS TO BUY A TICKET, AND DO YOU PAY A FEE?

None of our guests receive travel costs or a fee, though these are often covered by respective publishers. We agree that talent - book bloggers included - should be paid for their work, however The Book Party is a networking, promotional, and social opportunity for all attendees, bringing writers together with some of the most exciting and influential book influencers from across the UK and beyond. At The Book Party, influencers and writers are treated as equal, each bringing their own valuable contribution to the event. The Book Party does not require authors to take part in workshops, panels, Q&As, or any form of engaged work. As stated previously, a small number of guests will receive complimentary tickets at the sole discretion of the organisers.
